Spotlight On Staff: Edith Young
Edith Young brings passion, creativity, and commitment to excellence to Willamette Family's Child Development Center.  With over 10 years of experience, education, and training in early childhood development, Edith was chosen to be Manager of the program in 2003.

"Willamette Family is truly blessed to have a person the caliber of Edith to direct our Child Development Center. She brings not only a tremendous background in early childhood development, but also has an Associate's Degree and certification in chemical dependency counseling...she's uniquely qualified for this important position."  Micki Knuckles, Director of Treatment Services, Willamette Family."

"Edith is a great leader. She is very supportive of staff and makes sure that they receive the training they need. She is open and really listens." Becky Harrington, Family Advocate and Preschool Teacher.

Kelli Augustadt, Department of Human Services Substance Abuse Specialist, notes, "Edith brings care and compassion to the children who are involved with Child Welfare. She does terrific work in helping to reunite children who are in foster care with their moms who are receiving residential treatment...this includes making sure that fragile babies with extreme medical needs receive the care and attention they need."

Edith sums up her passion in a simple way: "helping families so they can experience success together." She wants to teach moms about their children's needs by creating powerful opportunities for attachment and bonding, and by making sure that her staff are well-trained and have the skills needed to meet the needs of children who may have special circumstances or conditions.

"We need to do everything we can to help families stay together whenever possible, and to help them reunite successfully when a child returns to mom from foster care."  Edith and her staff know the damage that can happen to a child who may have experienced multiple foster home placements and they know that much of this trauma can be prevented or resolved through therapeutic intervention.

"We want to create an environment where a child is healthy, feels safe to grow and to develop, and where moms can learn how to parent their babies while they complete their treatment and sustain their recovery.  We offer a continuity of care for both mom and her children that is vital to successful transition to the community."

With Edith's leadership, the children and moms at the Child Development Center are truly building a Bright Tomorrow!
