Tobacco use continues to be the single most preventable cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States. Persons entering drug abuse treatment smoke at 3-4 times the rate of the general U.S. population, and staff in publicly funded treatment programs smoke at twice the rate of the general population. Willamette Family strives to successfully promote tobacco cessation for clients and staff, to reduce the health risks associated with smoking, and to improve the health of our clients and their families.
Willamette Family hosts a Nicotine Anonymous (Nic-A) meeting, open to the general public and clients, on Fridays at 8:00 p.m. at the Men’s Treatment Center. The Fellowship of men and women offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
